I missed Titanic Dance when it first showed here in Belfast, but there was no way I was missing it this time round, and in fact I think the timing was better, because I was able to take along my favourite little Irish dancer Valentina to enjoy the sights and sounds of this really fantastic, world class show.
If you haven’t heard of it already, TitanicDance is the Irish musical dance sensation that tells the story of the world’s most famous ship from its beginning in the Belfast shipyard to its tragic end in the Atlantic Ocean. Produced by Millennium Forum Productions by arrangement with KSR Productions, it first took audiences by storm when it opened at the SSE Arena in 2014 to standing ovations.
A cast of 30 world class Irish dancers and live musicians set the scene for a breath-taking romantic performance. I don’t want to sound like an M&S ad, but this is not just an Irish dance show; it’s an emotional journey of hope, aspiration, love, heartbreak and sadness that will mesmerise audiences everywhere. Valentina and I really enjoyed the roaring performances and really felt buoyed (please excuse the inappropriate pun) by the dancers and the musicians on stage, despite the tragedy and heartache of the story.
In August 2016, TitanicDance showcased at the China International Folk Arts Festival in Qinghai, where it was seen by a live audience of over one billion people. Then in November 2016, the production made its inaugural visit to the US where it performed at the Branson Events Center in Missouri. It returned to China for sell-out runs in 2017 following a hugely successful Irish/UK tour. They will be touring China again after their stint in Belfast and I imagine further US tours will also follow.
TitanicDance performs at Belfast Waterfront from 9 to 19 August. Tickets are now available from the Box Office. Telephone 028 9033 4455 or click here:
